Introducing Mintscan Stationgate — Pathway to Cosmos IBC

Cosmostation has released a new update for Mintscan Block Explorer, Mintscan Stationgate. This update includes several UI/UX upgrades and back-end work in preparation for an IBC-compatible block explorer.

Mintscan Stationgate

Cosmostation is an enterprise-level validator infrastructure provider and end-user application developer for various PoS networks, with a strong focus on networks built with the Cosmos SDK and Tendermint Engine.

We believe that providing secure and user-friendly tools for the ecosystem is just as important as operating a stable and secure validator node. End-user applications with good UI/UX improves overall accessibility of the network as well as its appeal to the general masses. Below are some of the products we develop & maintain for the Cosmos ecosystem.

Block explorer for exchanges & everyday users, built to fit the specifications of various Cosmos SDK based networks. Currently used as the official explorer for $ATOM, $KAVA, $IRIS, $IOV by most exchanges.

Open source, non-custodial mobile wallet. The mobile wallet of choice for the majority of users within the Cosmos ecosystem. Supports Cosmos Hub, Iris Hub, Kava Network, Binance Chain, Starname Network, OKChain, Certik. Available in both iOS and Android.

Web Wallet with Ledger hardware wallet integration. Connect your hardware wallet to make secure transactions on the network.

End-to-end encrypted key management system for networks built with the Cosmos SDK. Open source, no installation required. Keystation allows users to access their personal accounts on Cosmostation Web Wallet even without a hardware wallet.

Over the past few weeks, we have gone through some back-end work as well as several UI/UX upgrades on Mintscan Block Explorer. This update is a stepping stone to the upcoming Mintscan 2.0 we plan to release in time for Cosmos Stargate upgrade. We named this version of the explorer Mintscan Stationgate, pathway to Cosmos IBC.

So, What’s New On Mintscan Stationgate?

Setting up the foundations for an inter-blockchain block explorer.

Mintscan Stationgate includes several upgrades that will prepare the block explorer for post Cosmos-IBC. IBC enables the transfer of value and information between networks that are compatible. In order to provide a seamless experience for users, end-user applications like mobile wallets and block explorers must not deviate too far from the user experience most people are already familiar and comfortable with.

Of course, the introduction of a new and innovative protocol like IBC creates an entirely new arena of use cases, business ideas, and UI/UX innovations that must follow. However during this transition, it is important to allow users to immerse themselves in an environment not too distant from what they already know.

Mintscan currently supports Cosmos Hub, IRISnet Hub, Kava Labs, Binance Chain, Starname Network.

Previously, users had to go to the exact network they wish to navigate and use the search bar within in order to find their transactions, blocks, etc. Through this update, we’ve allowed users to go to any network supported on Mintscan and use the search bar to search for whichever Txid or block they wish to find.

For example, searching for a Kava Network transaction on the Cosmos Hub explorer will let you know which network the inserted Txid is for, and automatically take you to the page/network you wish to see.

We felt that this was a necessary change to make in preparation for IBC — an IBC compatible block explorer must be interchain friendly.

Before this update, domains for each of these networks were managed separately. We felt the need to unify all of our supported networks under the same domain.

With unified domains, users can now go back and forth from one network to another without leaving the same website.

We’ve notified all exchanges and partners using Mintscan as their primary explorer. Previous domains will automatically be redirected to the new domain until we feel that all partners have made the switch to the new domain.

UI/UX of networks supported on Mintscan have been improved and unified where necessary. We’ve also updated Mintscan with a more intuitive Proposals page.

Mintscan is now 40% faster with database optimization. Users will be able to enjoy a must faster and seamless experience when the block explorer becomes busy and filled with transactions post-IBC.

Upcoming Mintscan 2.0

Mintscan Stationgate is simply a preparation for an Inter-Blockchain compatible block explorer for the Cosmos ecosystem.

After IBC is officially launched on Mainnet, there will be a plethora of different use-cases and applications that will need to be addressed from the end-user applications’ side. We are making the necessary changes step-by-step in preparation for the Cosmos vision that will finally come to fruition in the near future.
